About this coffee

AA Kamwangi is an exceptional specialty coffee grown by approximately 1,500 smallholder farmers in Kirinyaga County, Kenya's Central Highlands. The farmers deliver freshly harvested cherries to Kamwangi Factory, where careful sorting and processing ensure only the highest quality coffee is produced. The renowned Kenyan washed process highlights the coffee's remarkable clarity and vibrant acidity, resulting in a cup that showcases the distinctive characteristics that have made Kenyan coffees some of the most sought-after in the world.

The region

Kirinyaga County lies on the fertile southern slopes of Mount Kenya, one of the country's most celebrated coffee-growing regions. Sitting at elevations between approximately 1,500 and 1,800 metres above sea level, the area benefits from rich volcanic soils, reliable rainfall, and cool temperatures that encourage slow cherry maturation. These ideal growing conditions allow the coffee to develop pronounced sweetness, lively acidity, and exceptional complexity, making Kirinyaga a benchmark for outstanding Kenyan specialty coffee.

History of coffee in KENYA

Coffee was introduced to Kenya in the late 19th century, initially by French missionaries who planted Bourbon varieties near Nairobi. Over time, coffee became one of the country's most important agricultural industries, with the cooperative factory system enabling thousands of smallholder farmers to produce and market exceptional coffees. Today, Kenya is internationally recognised for its meticulous processing methods, rigorous quality grading, and vibrant cup profiles, with coffees from regions like Kirinyaga consistently earning acclaim for their brightness, sweetness, and complexity.
